India is making rapid strides towards being an empowered society and knowledge economy, and Digital India progamme is a significant initiative in this direction. Geomatics plays a key role in providing technology for planning and GIS based decision making and is an integral part of Digital India programme. Geospatial technology will continue to be central in facilitating development and enabling change; it will be essential that all geospatial and GIS applications are integrated and offered on a single platform. The seminar Geoinformatics for Digital India is poised to demonstrate the critical role of geospatial as it provides content and context for Digital India, as well the requisites for establishing a sturdy geospatial infrastructure for successfully implementing the Digital India programme.
