Theme ‘Namami Gange’ to ‘Arth Ganga”: Building Commonomics

16-17 November 2022

Institutional Partner

BACKGROUND

Water is recognized as an economic good having an economic value in all its competing uses be it as an input to economic activity such as irrigation, household and industrial water use, and hydropower generation, or as provider to ecosystem services such as the maintenance of wetlands, wildlife support, and river flows for aquatic ecosystems.

Economics has been playing an increasing role in water governance by adopting an integrated water resources management approach that treats issues cutting across multiple jurisdictions and sectors in a holistic manner. Steps are being taken up in the direction of sanitation, pollution abatement, river rejuvenation, wateruse efficiency and, most importantly, source sustainability. Read More...

Geospatial technologies provide a holistic approach towards effectively and efficiently addressing the challenges related to water (such as revival of rivers, water scarcity, stress, quality issues and bringing in climate resilience) and in building livelihood and boosting local economy.

GeoSmart India with its rich program agenda is organizing a two-day program (16 - 17 November) on “Water Resource” with the theme “‘Namami Gange’ to ‘Arth Ganga”: Building Commonomics”. The program will focus on how geospatial and allied technologies can help to solve societal challenges around water with an integrated approach and in placing water governance for circular economy, sustainability and building livelihood in a holistic manner.
